Plants of Brazil

The immense diversity of algae, fungi and plants in Brazil is represented in the country's herbaria and in several foreign ones. The "National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) Virtual Herbarium of Flora and Fungi in Brazil" is an initiative that proposes to integrate online, in a free and open way, information from herbarium collections in Brazil and abroad that have collections made in Brazilian soil.

COI joined the INCT-Virtual Herbarium and is making available data and images of specimens from several families that, collected in Brazil, are part of its collection. This set of specimens was selected from the General Collection and photographed by Professor Leonor Costa Maia (Federal University of Pernambuco), who visited COI for this purpose. The images obtained serve as the basis for transcription on this platform, whose data will be made available to the community as they are being transcribed.
